American Made Pure Gold Coin

The American Gold Buffalo was introduced by the United States Mint in 2006 as an option for gold bullion investors wishing to purchase an American made pure gold bullion coin. The Gold Buffalo has been produced in the One Ounce size every year since 2006. The Mint produced fractional sized Buffaloes (1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce and 1/10 ounce) in 2008 only. (The fractional Buffaloes are scarce and sell at substantial premiums to their gold content.) Both the Obverse and reverse designs were adapted from the popular and beautiful U.S. Buffalo Nickel. Gold Buffaloes sell for slightly higher premiums than the American Eagles and its nearest pure gold competitor, the Canadian Maple Leaf. Even though these coins cost a little more, many people still buy them for their beauty and novelty. Like the American Eagle, the Gold Buffalo can be held in precious metals IRA’s.
