France 20 Francs

A Low Premium, Well Recognized Historic Bullion Coin

The French 20 Franc Gold Coin was introduced under the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte in an attempt to create a Franc-based gold standard called the Latin Monetary Union. Because of the immense power wielded by France under the short reign of Napoleon, many satellite countries in his network issued coins to similar standards. The 20 Franc standard gained acceptance and continued to be used by France and adopted by many additional countries worldwide. (Many of these coins were struck at the Mint in Paris on behalf of these countries.) There are many types of French 20 Francs, but the most commonly encountered ones are the ‘Angels’ of the late 19th Century and the Roosters of the early 20th Century. Because there are so many different types of coins in the Latin Monetary Union, collecting them can be a fun and exciting hobby. It is also a good way to hold some bullion in the form of a cohesive collection. Even for those just wishing to purchase some gold bullion, the French 20 Franc is an ideal way to own smaller sized gold at a reasonable price.
