This could be considered the original ‘Civil War Token” as it is similar in concept and predates the other Civil War Tokens by a few years.  The obverse rendition of ‘Liberty’ also bears a curious resemblance to the CSA Cent patterns of 1861.

The Marshall House gained notoriety in 1861 due to a skirmish there between the Union led company of Ellsworth’s Fire Zouaves and the House’s owner James T. Jackson.  Col. Ellsworth and Jackson were both killed in the incident.
