1877 Gold $20 Liberty, MS60, PCGS

Mintage 397,650.  While the mintage is moderate, early date type three twenties such as this one survive at much smaller proportions than the later date issues.  Total PCGS/NGC population for the grade is 832 pieces with 482 in all higher grades.  Compare that to the common date 1904 Philadelphia Mint specimen populations of 45,396 in MS61 and 435,566 in all higher grades; you can see how scarce this coin is!  Yet it sells for just a small premium compared to the common coin!  Think about that for a second:  Only 397,650 1877-P $20.00 Gold were EVER minted.  There over 480,000 1904-P Twenties GRADED by PCGS and NGC alone.
