Description
Obverse: MARCIA OTICILLA SEVERA AVG. Diademed Draped bust of Otacilla Severa right.
Reverse: CONCORDIA AVGG SC. Concordia seated holding cornucopia and patera.
Mint: Rome, AD 245-247.
Otacilla Severa was the wife of Philip I, who was emperor from 244 to 249 AD. The notable event of the reign was the 1000th anniversary of Rome’s founding in 247-8 AD. After Philip was deposed, her fate was unclear. This is an absolutely beautiful sestertius! Choice and scarce! S-9164.
