Here is an interesting and historic coin. Poland in 1830 was a semi-autonomous state under the loose control of Russia since 1815. By 1830, Russia had begun to exert more control over the Polish territory than its citizenry felt to be comfortable. That year, an insurrection against Russian leadership began resulting in much bloodshed and the eventual absorption of the state by Russia in 1831. Poland would not exist again as an independent country until its release from Russia in 1918 following World War I.
The revolutionary forces managed to issue a small number of circulating coins during the insurrection; including this lovely and rare 2 Zlote coin. It has been cleaned but still has a pleasing presence about it.
